Ha Long Golf: Detailed Reviews of Quality Golf Courses for Golfers

Ha Long is not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site but has also long been one of the most attractive golf destinations in Northern Vietnam. The combination of leisure travel and golf is becoming increasingly popular, supported by seamless transport infrastructure along the Hanoi – Hai Phong – Ha Long expressway. For golfers, golf in Ha Long offers a unique appeal, with golf holes featuring spectacular views overlooking the majestic bay.

Golf Courses in Ha Long

When it comes to golf in Ha Long, golfers can currently experience two international-standard 18-hole courses, each offering a distinctive design concept and a completely different set of challenges:

FLC Ha Long Golf Club (Hillside Golf Course Overlooking the Bay)

Perched on the hills stretching from Columns 3 to 5, FLC Ha Long is renowned as one of Vietnam’s most scenic golf courses, offering panoramic views of the spectacular Ha Long Bay from above.

The course is designed to follow the natural contours of the hilly terrain. Its fairways are relatively narrow and undulating, requiring golfers to hit accurate driver shots to keep the ball safely on the fairway.

One of the course’s most distinctive features is the sea breeze blowing from the bay up toward the hilltop. Wind direction and intensity can change constantly, turning seemingly straightforward holes into challenging tests of club selection and distance control. The sloping greens and fast putting surfaces also present a significant challenge, demanding precision and confidence on the greens.

Tuan Chau Golf Resort (Island Golf Course by the Sea)

Located within the international tourist complex on Tuan Chau Island, this golf course features a long coastal stretch and a high-capacity lighting system, allowing golfers to enjoy late-evening rounds.

Unlike FLC Ha Long, Tuan Chau Golf Resort offers a relatively flat terrain, but features a dense combination of natural and artificial water hazards strategically positioned throughout the course.

The fairways are wide and open, creating a sense of confidence for golfers looking to unleash longer swings. However, the course architects have strategically placed deep bunkers around the greens. An approach shot that falls short or strays off line can easily find its way into the bunkers or water hazards along the coastline, making precision and distance control essential.

Tips for Booking the Best Tee Times in Ha Long

As a major tourist destination, Ha Long can get busy, so golfers should keep the following practical tips in mind to enjoy a more relaxed and seamless round:

• Consider the best time and tee time: During summer, early-morning tee times (6:00 AM – 8:00 AM) are popular due to the hot weather. Night Game sessions at Tuan Chau Golf Resort are also highly sought after. These cooler time slots tend to sell out quickly, so it is recommended to book 3–5 days in advance to secure your preferred tee time.
• Save more by booking through an agent: Booking directly with the golf course can often be more expensive. Reserving tee times through third-party agencies with strategic partnerships with the courses can help your group access more competitive rates and optimize your golf budget.
